Our St Aidan’s Badge

More than a badge. A sign of who we are.

Every day, our pupils wear the St Aidan’s badge. It connects us with St Aidan, our Catholic faith and the values we are called to live out as a school community.

Each part of the badge has a meaning and reminds us of the kind of people we are called to become.

Deus Lux Nostra

“God is our Light.”

At the heart of our badge are the words Deus Lux Nostra, meaning “God is our Light.”

These words remind us that Christ is at the centre of our school. His example guides the choices we make, the way we treat others and the people we are becoming.

This connects beautifully with our school mission:

“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
John 10:10

We want every young person at St Aidan’s to recognise their own dignity, discover their gifts and use those gifts to help others flourish.

The Doves

The badge contains two doves, powerful Christian symbols of peace, love and hope.

In Scripture, the dove reminds us of God's promise to Noah following the flood. At the Baptism of Jesus, the Holy Spirit descends like a dove.

For us, the doves are a reminder of God's presence and love, and of our own responsibility to be people who bring peace and hope to others.

The Deer

The deer connects our badge directly to St Aidan.

The story tells how St Aidan protected a deer being pursued by hunters. Aidan prayed for the animal and it was hidden from the hunters.

The story reminds us of St Aidan's compassion and care for God's creation.

It challenges us to notice those who are vulnerable, to protect those who need our help and to have the courage to act with compassion.

Wearing Our Badge

Our badge is more than part of our uniform.

When we wear it, we carry something of the identity and mission of St Aidan's with us.

God is our Light.
We choose peace.
We offer hope.
We protect and care for others.
We help one another to live life to the full.
