Apps / Programs for Pupils
Your son will be required to use a number of different systems to support their learning. They are listed below:
Sparx Maths
Sparx is a personalised Maths program designed to boost pupil grades. Homework set is to support closing knowledge gaps, ensuring all pupils have full coverage of the curriculum. You will be set Sparx each week, before the deadline it is expected that you have spent 90 minutes answering your questions and watching the supporting videos.
Step 1: Open Sparx through a web browser – http://www.sparxmaths.uk
Step 2: Click on ‘Log in’, then ‘Student Login’.
Step 3: Select ‘St Aidan’s Catholic Academy’ from the dropdown list.
Step 4: Enter your username (firstnamesurname – eg, joebloggs), then enter your password.
Step 5: If you have forgotten your password click on ‘forgotten my password’ to reset.
Top tip: Do 3, 30 minutes sessions over the week. Complete the first 30 session on the evening that your homework is set. This will give you an opportunity to speak with your class teacher in your lesson if you are struggling with any of the content.
EDUCAKE
Educake is a personalised program designed to improve pupil grades. You will use this system in Science, Geography and English. Homework and gap tasks are set to support closing knowledge gaps, ensuring all pupils have full coverage of the curriculum.
Step 1: Open Educake through a web browser – https://educake.co.uk or download the Educake App.
Step 2: Click on ‘Student Login’ in the top right hand corner.
Step 3: Enter your username and password given to you by your teacher. It is good practice to give a pupil or parent mobile when setting up your account for the first time to allow you to reset your password if this is forgotten.
Step 4: If you have forgotten your password click on ‘trouble logging in’ and follow the instructions given.
Microsoft teamS
Microsoft Teams is used by pupils to access resources shared by teachers, to see updates from teachers, to access CLIMB (Year 7 and 8) and SUMMIT Rooms (Year 9, 10 and 11). Teams will also be used if we ever need to deliver remote teaching via live lessons. It is important that all pupils can access TEAMs at all times.
Step 1: Open TEAMs through a web browser – Log In | Microsoft Teams or download the TEAMs App.
Step 2: Click on ‘Sign in’.
Step 3: Enter your username ([email protected]) and password (password you use to login into school machines). One logged in you should see a TEAM for each class on your timetable.
Step 4: CLIMB should be accessed by Year 7 and 8 to support your CLIMB award. SUMMIT rooms should be accessed by Year 9, 10 and 11 to stretch your curriculum content in each subject.
Step 5: To contact a member of staff you can use the ‘Chat’ function. Staff will respond when they can. There is no expectation for staff to respond outside the times of the school day.
Step 6: If there is ever a need for you to access live lessons these will appear in ‘Calendar’.
Duke of Edinburgh
This app is for pupils who are taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. Participants can use the DofE app to plan activities, get approval from leaders, record evidence, submit programmes for completion, access advice and support and even to sync important dates to their phone calendar.
Step 1: Download the DofE App: Click here.
Step 2: Log in using the details given to you by your DofE leader.
Step 3: Click here if you have questions about how to carry out specific tasks on the app – like how to add evidence, send messages or enter your personal details.
