Business Breakfast

December 12, 2019

On Tuesday 10th December, Mrs Osmialowski, Careers Leader at St Aidan’s held our first ever business breakfast. The purpose of the business breakfast was to invite local employers into our school to share our good work and the success’ of our boys and to tap into opportunities that will expose our boys to the world of work. We were fortunate to be supported, as always, by David Coe & Yvonne Haymonds from the NE Local Enterprise Partnership and Jack Deverson, Managing Director at Evidence Based Education & St Aidan’s Enterprise Advisor.

The morning opened with introductions and breakfast, followed by presentations from Mrs Osmialowski, David Coe (NELEP) and Jack Deverson. David gave an insight into NELEP and the work they carry out around the North East’s Strategic plan and how that links with Good Career Guidance and the Gatsby Benchmarks. The Gatsby Benchmarks are a tool that we use in school to provide all of our boys with a world-class career guidance programme. Jack then concluded the event by explaining his role of Enterprise Advisor to the attendees and the advantages of business’ working alongside young people and the school to prepare them for the jobs of tomorrow.

We were blown away by the enthusiasm and commitment from all of the employers during the business breakfast. All employers that attended the event chose from a ‘menu of opportunities’ the types of activities that they would be happy to facilitate or attend, as well as offering many new and exciting engagement opportunities for both our boys and staff. We look forward to working with them in the near future to help shape the school’s career programme.

We are always looking for opportunities and community links to enhance our careers programme further. If you, or your organisation would like to work with us on raising aspirations and creating meaningful encounters with employers for all of our students we would love to hear from you. Please contact Mrs Osmialwoski, Careers Leader, emma.osmialowski@staca.co.uk.

“Good career guidance is critical if young people are to raise their aspirations and capitalise on the opportunities available to them”.
