St Aidan’s Book Appeal
June 28, 2022
Do you have any unwanted books lying around at home? We are constantly updating and revamping our library shelves and would love to add your books to our collection. Drop off any donations to our Book Bin outside of reception.
Independent reading provides pupils with the confidence and skills to deal with the demands and rigours of Secondary school. Our aim is to put reading and Literacy at the heart of education. Ofsted acknowledge that ‘A great deal of the texts that are used in Secondary School have a high Reading Age so it is imperative that schools bridge the transition by developing independent, confident readers.’
To raise the profile of reading further and to reward and recognise endeavour and commitment to reading, we are planning to launch a ‘book vending machine’. The vending machine will be in a central place in the school and pupils will have the opportunity to select a book from it when they are identified by form tutors as being committed to their reading. We believe that this approach will create that necessary buzz and excitement around reading.
Last year, parents supported us in filling our library shelves by purchasing a book from our Amazon ‘Wishlist’. We ask parents to support us again by buying a book to help make our ‘Reading Vending Machine a success. Simply click on the link below which will take you straight to our ‘Wish List’, choose the book and quantity you would like to buy and add to your basket. When you are ready to checkout, the address for the school will appear as Finance Department which results in the book/s being delivered to our library straight away. We thank you in advance for your generosity.
