RPO at the Empire

St Aidan’s Orchestra musicians had a fantastic treat on Friday experiencing the virtuosic playing of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at Sunderland Empire Theatre. Players from the orchestra took time out of their busy schedule to talk to pupils, describe life in the RPO and explain diverse career paths in music. Rachel Van Der tang, one of the principal cellists, also played, demonstrated and described her cello – made in 1786! We were then lucky enough to watch the orchestra rehearse for the evening show comprising John Williams classics such as: Jaws, Harry Potter, Schindler’s List, Raiders of the Lost Arc and many more. It was fabulous being able to see such a world-renowned orchestra and gain a behind the scenes insight into working as an orchestral musician.
