St Aidan’s Catholic Academy day with the Royals!!

February 23, 2018

Two of our pupils, Josh in Year 12 and William in Year 9 had an alternative curriculum from lessons on Wednesday 21st February by having a meeting with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge .

Team 21 is a group of young people (13-18) who represent the young people of Sunderland and help make Sunderland a better place.

“I have been a part of Team 21 for the last year and have thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. It was great to be able to express my views about the City and represent all the other young people in Sunderland. I think that listening to a young person’s ideas and hopes for the City has really helped the Council (and other organisations) understand what young people want and need from the City.

I was recently invited by Team 21 to attend the official opening of the Fire Station and was amazed to find out that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would be there to open it. Meeting the Duke and Duchess was a fabulous experience and I think that everyone else enjoyed it as well, (even though we were quite nervous before hand!)

Although we unfortunately did not win the 2021 City of Culture award, I think all the new projects in Sunderland (e.g. The Northern Spire, The Fire Station, and Keel Square) will really improve the City for everyone, especially young people.”
